PIPE STRESS ANALYSIS AND PIPING SYSTEMS
Very often pipe distribution network requires pipe stress analysis to determine loads, forces, and stress on pipe support systems and to make sure that pipes are not overstressed according to required codes and standards.
InterCool/ Mason Industries provides design service to carry out pipe stress analysis for all services; Chilled Water, Hot water, Coldwater, Steam, all fluid systems. We use different pipe analysis software such as ALGORE, CAEPIPE, and CEASAR. Modeling of the piping distribution system including the location of support, guides, and anchors is done first to determine the location of the overstressed pipe. Introduce expansion joints or other components to reduce pipe stresses. The study considers normally three cases; dead weight, dead weight and pressure, deadweight pressure, and thermal.
PIPE SURGE AND HYDRAULIC ANALYSIS
Overwhelmingly the Cooling District Plant requires Surge and Hydraulic analysis.
InterCool provides Surge analysis for the piping system by using surge analysis software like AFT IMPULSE 5 5.0.1131 (2015.04.14) or PIPENET VERSION 1.6.0.509 from SUNRISE SYSTEMS LIMITED 2005 – 2011, CAMBRIDGE CB25 9QZ, UNITED KINGDOM, and by studying different scenarios of pump’s switching, pump’s failures, and sudden valve closure at different locations to avoid the buildup of internal shock waves or surge pressure, known commonly as water hammer results from an abrupt change of fluid velocity within the system.
The surge analysis should find the potential of water hammer or surge pressure and must recommend a remedy to prevent these surge pressure waves from traveling throughout the piping system and causing damage far away from the wave source of the water hammer which could be potentially harmful to the system.
Adequate valve closure and opening timing should be suggested based on surge analysis; mitigation measures will be recommended by this study to control the surge pressure & pressure waves in the system.
InterCool offers also Hydraulic Analysis for the chilled and condensing water piping systems through the use of AFT Fathom software IMPULSE 9 release 9.0.1109 (2015.09.01) for this application.
The primary objective of the hydraulic analysis is to ensure the adequacy of pump selection (Pump head calculations) and CHW and CD system competency to meet the flow demand for the buildings during peak & normal cooling loads requirements.
The hydraulic analysis should assume different scenarios with different operation function related to flow and delta T to achieve design parameters.
DESIGN OF STEEL STRUCTURE SUPPORTS
Once loads and forces are determined at each supports, guides, and anchors; InterCool provides steel structure design for piping system in Energy Transfer Stations (ETS), chiller rooms, piping distribution network which required steel structure support elements. Design of steel structure would be according to required building codes and standards. We take the output from stress analysis and design steel structure using structural design software MIDAS & STAAD.
InterCool provides Professional Indemnity Insurance for all designs.
